Short answer: The lowest noise claim we found on a current listing is the BOB AND BRAD Q2 Mini, sold on Amazon as running “below 40 dB” at $64.99. Hyperice rates its Hypervolt Go 3 at 55 dB. For comparison, normal conversation runs 60 to 70 dBA. None of these figures come from an independent lab, and no brand says how far from the gun it measured.
This page compares published noise claims. It is not medical advice, and we did not measure these guns ourselves. Every figure below comes from a brand page or an Amazon listing we read in October 2026, and each is credited to whoever published it.
What is the quietest massage gun?
On published numbers, the BOB AND BRAD Q2 Mini. Its Amazon listing says the brushless motor “runs below 40 dB.” The TOLOCO Massage Gun claims 40 to 50 dB. Hyperice states 55 dB for the Hypervolt Go 3, and its Amazon listing for the older Go 2 promises “Feel it, don’t hear it” without giving a number.
Treat the ranking with care. A decibel figure means little without the distance and speed it was taken at, and none of these sellers publish either. A gun quoted at 40 dB from a meter away could be louder against your shoulder than one quoted at 55 dB from 30 centimeters. Decibels are also logarithmic, so the gap between 40 and 55 is bigger than the numbers suggest.

Which quiet massage guns are worth a look?
BOB AND BRAD Q2 Mini
The lowest published noise figure here, in a gun that weighs under a pound.
- Listed below 40 dB, 7 mm amplitude and up to 35 lb of stall force
- Five speeds from 1,800 to 3,000 rpm, 0.95 lb, with a 10-minute auto shut-off
- Listed as FSA and HSA eligible, with a 2-year warranty
Hyperice Hypervolt Go 2
Sold on quietness without a decibel number, and Hyperice has since moved its own site on to the Go 3.
- The listing credits “QuietGlide technology” and a brushless 40W motor
- Three speeds, charged by USB-C
- The 55 dB rating on Hyperice’s site belongs to the Go 3, not this model
TOLOCO Massage Gun
The cheapest gun with a published noise range, and a much longer stroke than the minis.
- Listed at 40 to 50 dB in use
- 12 mm amplitude and up to 3,200 rpm, so expect it louder at the top speed
- Ships with 10 heads and a stated battery life of up to 6 hours
RENPHO Massage Gun with Long Handle
Here for the reach, not the noise. The listing makes no quietness claim at all.
- Detachable handle with four positions, useful for your own back and shoulders
- RENPHO markets its separate Active+ model as “ultra-quiet,” also without a number
Is there a quiet Theragun?
Therabody sells the Theragun Mini (3rd Gen) at $219.99 on its own site and calls it its smallest and lightest Theragun. The product page we read did not give a decibel figure, so we cannot rank it against the guns above. Neither could we find a current Theragun Mini listing sold on Amazon in October 2026. If a quiet Theragun matters to you, ask Therabody for the measured figure and the distance it was taken at before buying.
Is a massage gun too loud for an apartment?
A massage gun makes two kinds of noise: the motor, and the head striking your body. The impact is the part that can carry through a floor or a shared wall. A compact gun on its lowest speed, used on a fleshy area such as the shoulder or calf, is the quietest way to use any of them. For comparison, the National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders puts normal conversation at 60 to 70 dBA, so the brand claims above sit below talking level, if they hold.
For renters, the gun also leaves nothing to install and nothing to explain to a landlord. A massage chair is the opposite on both counts, as our massage chair versus massage gun comparison sets out.
How can you make a massage gun quieter?
Start on the lowest speed. Every gun here gets louder as rpm rises, and the low setting is also where you would start for comfort anyway.
Swap to a soft or cushioned head. A hard metal or plastic head on a bony spot rattles more than a foam head on muscle. Use it sitting on a sofa or bed, not on a hard chair against a shared wall, so less vibration passes into the building. Hold it steady with light pressure. A head bouncing off the skin is noisier than one held against it, and pressing hard enough to slow the motor makes it strain.
Check the gun itself too. A head that sits loose in the socket can click on every stroke. If the gun has suddenly become louder than it used to be, contact the brand under its warranty rather than opening it up.
Does a quieter massage gun work as well?
For everyday tightness, the evidence is about vibration in general, not specific guns. A 2019 meta-analysis of 10 randomized trials with 258 participants found that vibration lowered delayed-onset muscle soreness pain scores at 24, 48 and 72 hours after exercise, and the authors called for further studies. None of those trials tested the guns on this page.
The trade-off is power. The quiet minis have shorter strokes, 7 mm on the Q2 Mini against 12 mm on the TOLOCO. Our massage gun buying guide explains amplitude and stall force, and if price is the deciding factor, see the best massage guns under $100. Gentle settings are also the usual starting point on sensitive areas such as the glutes, covered in our article on massage guns and sciatica discomfort.
Verdict
If the lowest published number decides it, the BOB AND BRAD Q2 Mini claims below 40 dB at $64.99. The Hypervolt costs more and its current model is rated 55 dB. Whatever you buy, low speed and a soft head do more for your neighbors than the spec sheet.
Still choosing between tools? Compare a gun with a foam roller, which makes no noise at all, or with compression boots.
Frequently asked questions
What is the quietest massage gun?
Among the listings we read in October 2026, the BOB AND BRAD Q2 Mini makes the lowest claim, below 40 dB. That figure comes from the seller, with no stated distance or speed.
Is there a silent massage gun?
No. A percussive head striking the body always makes sound. The lowest claims we found were around 40 dB, which is still audible in a quiet room.
How loud is a Hypervolt?
Hyperice rates the Hypervolt Go 3 at 55 dB with its QuietGlide motor. The Amazon listing for the Go 2 promotes QuietGlide too but gives no decibel figure.
Which Theragun is the quietest?
We could not answer that from published numbers. The Theragun Mini (3rd Gen) product page we read gave no decibel rating, so ask Therabody for one before comparing it with other brands.
Can I use a massage gun in an apartment without bothering neighbors?
Usually, if you keep to a low speed, a soft head and a fleshy area, and use it on a sofa rather than against a shared wall. Late at night, the impact noise through the floor is the part most likely to carry.
How do I make my massage gun quieter?
Use the lowest speed, a cushioned head and light, steady pressure on muscle rather than bone. Make sure the head is fully seated in its socket. A gun that has become louder over time is a warranty question.
Are decibel ratings on massage gun listings accurate?
They cannot be checked as published. None of the brands we read stated the measuring distance or speed, and none cited an independent test, so use them to compare roughly, not as a guarantee.
